A Hollywood hunk who took up acting in Tonbridge ‘to meet girls’ is set to star in a new Disney blockbuster.
Dan Stevens – who played Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey – is starring alongside Harry Potter legend Emma Watson in the remake of Beauty and the Beast.
The star-studded film features an abundance of acting talent such as Ewan McGregor, Luke Evans, Emma Thompson and Sir Ian McKellen.
Mr Stevens moved to Tonbridge in 1996, when he was 13, to board at the independent boys’ school. He became interested in drama after auditioning for the title role in Macbeth.
As a schoolboy he would star in plays at girls’ schools in Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks to ‘meet girls’
“If you were half decent at acting you would get farmed out to the local girls’ schools and be in their plays – which was awesome,” he said.
