In what comes as great news for those who like eating out, there are no food businesses in Canterbury that have a zero star food hygiene rating.
In fact, of the 1,500 restaurants, pubs, cafés, takeaways, hotels, supermarkets and other food shops in the district, only five have a one star rating and 14 have two star ratings.
But mostly – a high 64 per cent (915 businesses) — have won all five stars from food hygiene inspectors.
The news comes at a time when Canterbury City Council launched a new rescore for food businesses.
Under the scheme, businesses that have been not been awarded top hygiene ratings can apply for a priority rescore visit from the council, as soon as they have made improvements.
