Commemorating Henry ll’s pilgrimage to Canterbury and his astonishing public apology in 1174, this colourful parade features historical characters, mounted warriors, giants and medieval mayhem!
The Pageant commemorates Henry ll’s pilgrimage to Canterbury and his astonishing public apology for the murder of Thomas Becket in 1174. This colourful parade features historical characters, mounted warriors, musicians, local schools, re-enactment groups, giants, music and medieval mayhem. You could even come in costume and join the Parade yourself!
The parade will depart from Tower House (Westgate Gardens) at 11am, process across the city, finishing at the Marlowe Theatre’s forecourt at around 12:30.
The pageant will be followed by the Family Trail – for children of all ages … even “Middle Ages”!
Running from 11.30 to 5pm, the Medieval trail encourages visitors to enter numerous heritage sites around the city. Follow the trail and discover your talent for medieval archery, jewellery making, sword fighting, arts and crafts and much more.
