Leeds Castle

More than just a Castle!

Leeds Castle is located around 5 miles to southeast of the Kent town, Maidstone and close to the small village of Leeds. The castle is situated on small islands in a lake formed by the River Lens. There has been a castle on the site since the 1119. During the 13th century it was the primary residence of King Edward I and in the 16th Century Henry VIII used the castle to house Catherine of Aragon. The modern castle, which has been open to the public since 1976, mostly dates back to the 19th century.

Leeds Castle is home to a wide range of activities that cater for everyone and make for a fantastic family day out. Below is a list of just a few, but by no means all of the things that you can experience on your fabulous day:

1. The Castle
The castle is open from 10.30 everyday and the entrance to castle is included in your admission ticket

2. The Maze
There are 2 mazes at Leeds Castle, the first is the spiraling yew adult maze and the turf maze designed for children. Both are a must see and again included in your admission fee

3. The Children’s Playgrounds
There are 2 fantastic children’s playgrounds at Leeds Castle. These are the Knights’ Realm Playground aimed at children between the ages of 5 and 15 and the Squires’ Court Playground aimed at children up to the age of 6. Amazingly these are again included in the entrance fee!

4. The Exhibition Centre
The Exhibition Centre is located in the Fairfax Courtyard and has some stunning exhibitions about history, art and culture.

5. The Garden and Grounds
Like most castles and country homes, Leeds Castle has some stunning gardens and grounds. Take a stroll around and take in the cascade, wood and Lady Baillie Gardens

6. The Go Ape Treetop Adventures
Again there are 2 Treetop Adventures, one aimed at older children and adults and one aimed at children. There are rope bridges, zip slides and Tarzan swings for everyone to enjoy. Entry to the Treetop Adventures is NOT included in your admission fee

7. Segway Tours

Take an escorted tour around the grounds on a Segway and see the sights you rarely see on foot! Tours start at £18 and are suitable for those over the age of 14.
