Thanet Volunteer Bureau’s work to tackle loneliness in the district.Following the announcement that Prime Minister Theresa May has appointed a minister for loneliness, we take a look at what one Thanet charity is doing to tackle the issue.Many Thanet residents are no strangers to the spectre of loneliness.Last year, a joint report by Co-op and the British Red Cross highlighted parts of the district as being among the top 39 loneliest places to live in Britain.While loneliness may be prevalent on the isle, there is both help available and opportunity to play a part in helping others who find themselves on their own.Thanet Volunteer Bureau (TVB) is one charity which takes this twin approach.TVB project co-ordinator Chris Scutt said: “We run a series of weekly social gatherings across Thanet called Your Time, designed to bring people together..For more on this Full Story KentNews.Co.UK
Goudhurst, Coxheath and Penshurst compete for Penelope Keith’s favour.Do not disturb signs will be hung on the doorknobs of homes in three villages in Kent this week, with residents avidly glued to their television sets.Coxheath, Goudhurst and Penshurst are all competing for the coveted title of Village of the Year in the Channel 4 series presented by Penelope Keith.Coxheath is counting on its being the venue for the World Custard Pie Championships to win it bonus points, while Goudhurst has its attractive duckpond and smugglers gang.Penshurst boasts Penshurst Place and St John the Baptist Church.The entrants – and there are 76 from across the country – will be judged on history, events, activities and the visitor experience…For more on this KentOnline.Co.UK Full Story
Football:Gillingham striker Tom Eaves had 3,000 reasons to avoid a red card at Scunthorpe.Boss Steve Lovell admitted to threatening Tom Eaves with a fine before the striker tucked home Gillingham’s third goal on Saturday.Lovell was keen to take the player off, after he had picked up a booking, but Eaves wasn’t so keen.The Gills manager said: “He works his socks off every week and I was going to bring him off.“Before his goal I said to him ‘Tom, you’ve got five minutes and then you’re coming off’. He said, ‘gaffer, I want to stay on, I’m all right’.“I said to him, ‘if you get sent off, I am going to fine you £3,000!’ He said, ‘don’t worry, I am staying on’.“He stayed on and got his goal and once he got his goal I thought he would be happy then so we brought him off.”It was Eaves’ 11th goal of the season, but he’s also now on eight bookings, edging closer to a suspension..Full information Inspire Kent Events for Full Story

Roller Racing Winter Series at Freewheel Pub – Friday 26th January 2018.Cycling Clubs across Kent are invited to send teams to The Freewheel Roller Racing Winter Series.The Freewheel Roller Racing Winter Series will take place once a month on Friday evenings from November to March. Points will be awarded according to how far a rider progresses and there’s prizes to be won! Sprinters will be racing head to head on static fixed wheel bicycles strapped on to a set of rollers within a jig. When the riders ride, the rollers roll.Each bike is wired up to a giant clock showing a simulated distance of 500 metres. Because each rider has their own clock hand, the ensuing head-to-head sprint is easy to watch.
